Submitting games for review
What’s that? You want to see your game reviewed in these pages and possibly in the other outlets I write for?
Well, come right in. I’m here to help.
Is there a review fee?
No! Absolutely not. I never charge to review games, period. It’s that simple.
What to send
I need a copy of the game to write the review, so your only cost is the game plus shipping. Please email me for shipping address and details.
Game review philosophy (aka “Will you trash my game if you don’t like it?”)
When I review games, I follow a very simple philosophy: I want the best outcome for you as a game publisher, for my readers, and for the game industry.
- If you have a good game, I tell people about it.
- If I have issues with your game, I contact you privately with my thoughts.
I DO NOT publicly flog hobby games by posting negative reviews. That kind of thing doesn’t help anyone.
However, I really dislike MONOPOLY
I have only one general exception to the above philosophy: MONOPOLY from Parker Brothers / Hasbro and its various “opoly” spawn. (The brilliant Anti-Monopoly from Ralph Anspach is an exception to the exception, because it’s a really amazing game.)
I pick on MONOPOLY because it’s simply a bad game for families to play.
MONOPOLY is built like a teeter-totter, so if you’re up (you have more money, property, and so on), then I’m down (with less money, property, and chance of winning).
The horrid experience of playing MONOPOLY prejudices people against board games in general. That frustrates me immensely, because it’s damage I have to undo just so I can get people back to the middle of the like/dislike board games scale.
Questions? Just ask.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. As I said above, my bottom line is simple: I want to help you sell more games. It’s that easy.
